We saved a customer £3000 by challenging the need to completely replace two flat entrance fire doors, with a more cost-effective recommendation of an upgrade of the existing "notional" fire doors.
A fire risk assessment by an external company may sometimes conflict with the views of a person responsible for fire safety, frequently because the perceived cost is believed to outweigh the benefit.
Our second opinion may be more cost-effective.
A type 1 risk assessment is the most basic assessment required by the Fire Safety Order 2005. It is required for workplaces and buildings with two or more dwellings (i.e flats) that share an escape route. It is non-destructive and assesses the common parts of a building or workplace.
It includes an assessment of fire safety management, preventative measures (How fires could start or spread) and protective measures (Fire Doors etc)
Report, risk score, action plan and consultations included.
This type of fire risk assessment is used within Purpose Built Blocks of Flats and Houses Converted to Flats in order to assess how the whole building will react in a fire .
It is non-destructive and assesses both the common parts and inside the flats themselves.
It encompasses all that of a Type 1 assessment but also looks each flat's means of escape, fire resistance (including internal doors) and fire detection & warning systems.
Required under Article 11 & 15 of the Fire Safety Order 2005.
An emergency action plan is a pre-planned, recorded procedure stating what should be done by staff and occupants of a building, should there be a fire.
The FRA, building layout and use, occupants, visitors, contractors and fire safety defects are considered within the plan.
Guided consultation, emergency action plan document, PEEPs / GEEPs included.
Under Article 21 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, your employees will require fire safety training.
Following the creation or review of your FRA and Emergency Action Plan, we train your employees or managerial staff on how to prevent a fire, what to do in case of fire and how to identify fire safety defects specific to your workplace or building.
Training should be undertaken during work hours and we work with you to meet those requirements.
This package combines our services to create a fire-safe and legally compliant workplace.
It is suitable for both new and existing businesses.
Customised to fit your needs, it may include a fire risk assessment, emergency action plan, liaising with contractors/building control, employee training, a fire safety management policy and a fire safety records folder.
Since the introduction of the The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, making sure that all fire doors in your building are up to standard is a legal requirement for commercial and managed residential buildings.
We inspect your fire doors and supply a report highlighting any deficiencies.
Once your fire doors are compliant we can train your employees to identify any further deficiencies caused by wear and tear.
A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP) documents how people will be evacuated when they have difficulty responding to a fire alarm or escaping from a building unaided, in the event of an emergency.
We create PEEPS for your employees and supply GEEPs for visitors to your workplace.
A fire safety audit is an examination of a premises and any fire safety documents. This is to ensure the premises is well managed in regards to fire safety and in-line with the legislative responsibilities of the duty holder.
Acting as a "neutral person" we use our experience to audit a premises similar to how the fire authority would.
We provide an unbiased report giving a "true picture" followed by a consultation to explain our findings and recommendations.

In 2005, after responding to a high-rise flat fire with reports of people trapped inside, I found myself unable to rescue my fellow firefighters, despite numerous attempts. Tragically, they perished in the blaze along with a resident, while attempting a second rescue. Both firefighters were posthumously awarded the George Medal.
The rescue attempt was thwarted by critical fire safety defects: fire doors failed to close properly, smoke vents worked incorrectly feeding the fire, the stairwell filled with smoke and flames, the dry rising main was partially blocked and locked by padlock and chain, while smoke travelled internally to the flat above.
The loss of my colleagues and a resident had a profound effect on me. It shifted my focus from fighting fires to preventing them and ensuring safe evacuations to reduce risks for both residents and Firefighters. I realised I needed extensive knowledge, training, qualifications and experience to share my expertise effectively.
I chose the challenging path of leaving operational duties to specialise in fire safety. I joined my Fire Service's Fire Safety Team and later transferred to London's following the "Grenfell" Tower fire. Over four years, I gained qualifications, completed my development phase and audited various buildings, from high-rise and engineered structures to shops, pubs, care homes, specialised housing and more.
During this time, I learned from both good and poor fire risk assessments. Observing flawed assessments and buildings that led to prohibition notices which helped shape the services I offer through Firebusiness today.
